At College Hype, we're proud to recognize the outstanding student-athletes who embody dedication, leadership, and excellence both on and off the field. This year's Female and Male Athletes of the Year from Hingham High School exemplify everything we value in athletic achievement and character.

Female Athlete of the Year: Grace Maroney
Grace Maroney has redefined what it means to be a dominant multi-sport athlete. Excelling in both lacrosse and soccer since her freshman year, Grace leaves behind a legacy that will inspire Hingham athletes for generations.
Her lacrosse achievements are nothing short of spectacular. This season alone, she recorded 93 goals and 23 assists for 116 points, while controlling 101 draws. Despite missing most of her sophomore year to injury, Grace finished her career with an incredible 296 points, 259 goals, and 290 draw controls.
The accolades speak volumes: two-time US Lacrosse All-American, two-time Patriot League MVP, and recipient of the prestigious US Lacrosse Jackie Pitts Award for the Eastern Massachusetts region. Grace also earned recognition as the 2025 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, proving her excellence extends beyond athletics.
"Grace is one of the best athletes I have ever coached," said lacrosse head coach Carla Farkes. "She is a daily inspiration to her teammates by her work ethic and her determination to be the best she can be."
Grace's impact wasn't limited to lacrosse. As senior captain of the girls soccer team, she helped lead the program to success, including a D1 State Championship during her sophomore year.
Next fall, Grace will continue her athletic and academic journey at the University of Notre Dame, where she'll compete at the Division I level.
Male Athlete of the Year: Matty Cummings
Matty Cummings exemplifies versatility and leadership, making profound impacts across three varsity sports: soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Serving as captain in both basketball and volleyball, Matty demonstrated the rare ability to adapt and lead in any setting.
In soccer, despite suffering an early-season concussion that prevented him from heading the ball, Matty reinvented himself as a forward and used his athleticism to positively impact every game. "Matt is smart, athletic, powerful and a great guy," noted soccer head coach Dave Leahy.
During basketball season, Matty's leadership proved invaluable during early struggles. "Matt's leadership was a major part in our growth as a team and a program," said head coach Bob Kniffen. "The growth we saw this year would not have happened without the culture Matt helped create."
Perhaps most impressively, Matty helped establish the boys volleyball program at Hingham High School as one of its founding members. "I can't imagine either the success or the enjoyment athletes and I have experienced without him," said volleyball head coach Shawn Nugent.
Matty will attend Michigan State University in the fall, carrying with him the leadership skills and character that made him such an exceptional student-athlete.
Excellence in Action
Both Grace and Matty represent the values College Hype celebrates: dedication, leadership, academic excellence, and team-first mentalities. Their achievements remind us why we're passionate about supporting student-athletes who push boundaries and inspire others.
