What started as a playful jab between neighboring towns has transformed into something truly meaningful—a powerful fundraising effort that's helping honor Weymouth's incredible military heritage.
It all began with Mayor Bob Hedlund's satirical decision to rename Hingham Bay the "Gulf of Weymouth"—a tongue-in-cheek move that caught the attention of locals and sparked plenty of conversation. But what could have remained just a clever municipal joke has evolved into something much more significant. Weymouth holds a remarkable distinction that many communities would envy: the town is home to five Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. This incredible legacy of courage and service deserved proper recognition, and the Gulf of Weymouth Committee, along with Union Brew House, stepped up to make that happen.
College Hype was honored to screen print the Gulf of Weymouth t-shirts that became the cornerstone of this grassroots fundraising effort. Sometimes the most impactful projects aren't the biggest or flashiest—they're the ones that connect communities and serve a greater purpose. The response was overwhelming. These shirts didn't just become a local novelty; they became a symbol of community pride and support for our veterans and fallen heroes.

The Gulf of Weymouth t-shirt campaign raised an impressive $7,000 for the Fitzgibbon Memorial, proving that when a community comes together behind a cause, remarkable things can happen. Every shirt sold represented not just local pride, but a tangible contribution to honoring those who served our country with the highest distinction. This Memorial Day, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial statues will be unveiled at the Ralph Talbot Amphitheater. It's a moment that transforms Mayor Hedlund's satirical "Gulf of Weymouth" into a lasting tribute to real heroes—Weymouth's five Medal of Honor recipients who exemplified the very best of American courage and sacrifice.
At College Hype, we're proud to have played our part in this initiative. It's a perfect example of how screen printing can be more than just putting ink on fabric—it can be about building community, supporting causes, and creating lasting impact.
